I just remembered the stories about Charlie Emmett Harder included in "The Canyons are full of Ghosts".

After learning about the Barkers I never felt any ominous feelings at Barker Ranch. They were exceptional humans from what I've read. Manson got the press to the area but he took his black cloud with him.

Friends and I visited the Barker Ranch again a few weeks ago.  Knowing now that Manson has died it feels to me like a black cloud had been lifted off of the Barker Ranch.  I know……..  A little weird, but with Charles Manson gone the name Barker Ranch is now more about the pioneering Barker family who developed that property in the middle of nowhere, and a whole lot less about a no-account, evil, sick cult leader who spent a little time there.
