Temp and Population

Hi everyone;

Most of the time my visit to Saline is in October. This time I'm coming in May 14th and I'd like to know in general terms what the average temperature runs at that time of year? I'd also like to know in a ruff estimate the number of people I might encounter? I'm just wondering because I share most of the things I bring in. Depending on few or plenty will determine the amount of things I bring. I appreciate any information anyone might provide on the aforementioned.

Pop-up Tent Trailer on North Pass??

I have rarely seen tent trailers at Saline that weren't the heavy duty, off-road variety. While I assume that there is a reason for that, I'm curious if people have had personal experience with them? Have you driven one in? Did it survive the trip? The off-road variety are pretty spendy. I'm tempted to try a regular one, but would be unhappy if I had to buy a new one every time I came in. Whatcha think?

Caravan In/Out Via South Pass Easter Weekend

I'm hoping to go to Saline Valley Hot Springs for the Easter weekend if the weather is not so bad that the roads are impassable in my 2WD S10 Blazer. Are any others interested in joining me on this trip? I'm seeking others who would like to caravan into the valley with me. I'll likely take off Friday so I'll be leaving from the Bakersfield area around 3:30 pm on Thursday. I'd be leaving the valley around noon on Sunday. Unless there is an extraordinary reason to forgo the south pass, that will be my route to the valley. I drive very slow anyways. It's always best to drive in a group. If you want to join me, send me an email.

Camp Hosts at Palm Springs

Hi fellow Saliners,
We left the valley on March 14 because of the incoming storm. We enjoyed our last term as Assistant Camp Hosts very much. Thanks to all of you who supported us with fresh fruit and veggies, so we survived over 5 months without ever leaving the valley!
We would like to be back again next fall, but the Superintendent found out that our Visa is not good for doing volunteer work in a National Park. Our only hope now is to get an exemption of the 30 day rule, so we could help inofficially at peak times. Please support us.

LAS VEGAS -- A 67-year-old bicyclist from San Francisco remained missing Tuesday, more than a week after he stepped away from a campfire in Death Valley National Park and vanished, a sheriff's official in California said.

George Kohler was last seen on the evening of March 12, when he told members of his bicycle tour group that he was going to his tent at Mesquite Spring campground, Inyo County sheriff's spokeswoman Carma Roper said in a statement.

The next morning, Kohler's bicycle and camping gear were still there, but he wasn't. There was no indication that he slept in his tent, Roper said.

Roper told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that Kohler's disappearance was puzzling.

The group of bicyclists stopped for the night at the campground at the northern end of the park, about 180 miles northwest of Las Vegas and not far from the park's Scotty's Castle attraction.

Sheriff's investigators want to talk with anyone who was on the road to Scotty's Castle and may have seen Kohler or given him a ride.

Kohler is described as being about 5-foot-7 and 160 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a blue jacket, navy blue T-shirt and black pants.

The weather was mild when Kohler disappeared, with daytime highs in the 70s and overnight lows in the 40s.

Mesquite Spring is a developed campground with restrooms, picnic tables, potable water and a resident camp host. Roper said about 50 other people were staying there the night Kohler disappeared.

Seven local, state and federal agencies have taken part in the search, including rescue dogs on the ground and aircraft from Nellis Air Force Base near Las Vegas, the China Lake Naval Weapons Base near Ridgecrest, and the California Highway Patrol.

SPA recently met with Park officials at Furnace Creek and discussed the upcoming public scoping on an Environmental Impact Statement for a Warm Springs management plan. towing advice

Anyone ever tow in a teardrop or camping trailer through snow on north pass? Any wisdom appreciated. I'm hoping this latest storm did not dump much on the north pass.
I'll be heading out April 7th with a fully load v6 truck and 1800 lb teardrop trailer.
