Overzealous Rangers?

I recently heard from my friend who spent New Years in Saline that the Rangers were out in force during New Years and ticketing everyone and everything they could. I have no idea if there is any truth to the claim, so I am asking; Did anyone have any negative experiences this New Years with the rangers?

NY's Weekend !!!!

A great weekend out at the springs !!!!The weather was great ...Maybe alittle cooler than I like but it was wind rain and snow free all weekend !!! Each time I go out there I meet the greatest people and this time was no different ... Went to 2 group dinners up at upper friday and sunday and the BIG Shin Dig at lower on saturday ...One of my best times out there ...And north pass has never been better its to the point you could almost drive to Lone Pine for dinner ...

Alternate route

We have visited the springs a few times, but we're looking for a shorter route from Las Vegas. We've come in from the South Pass, and frankly it will shake your teeth out. We have also come in on the North Pass via Big Pine. That is much better, but a long drive. I'm wondering about going up through Crankshaft Junction, across the top to Death Valley Rd, and in through the North Pass. I should mention we're not planning on coming in till Easter weekend though. Just wondering what the road conditions might be between the turnoff to Scotty's and Crankshaft Junction, and beyond?

A call is going out for volunteers with ATVs and other desert vehicles to help search for two men missing since early Sun. morning.

The information below is third-hand through Facebook, posted today, 12/20:
"We're here in Randsberg with the families and still no news. Everyone is really worried, this will be night 3 in freezing weather. I was originally told that there we was too much help, but there are clearly not enough professionals here. If you have any connections with law enforcement or media outlets, Kern county clearly needs pressure to allow the teams that want to help to come in. These boys need to be found tomorrow. We just need as much awareness as possible so that a massive effort can take place tomorrow AM. One chopper and 20 friends on dirt bikes is not enough, please get the word out so that the resources available can be put to use."

President's Weekend 2012

President's Weekend Gala Event.

On February 18, we will be holding our annual Upper Springs Breakfast Gala. Breakfast will include pancakes, sausage, eggs, and orange slices. Please bring own eating utensils and plates. Breakfast starts at 9AM and will end around 10AM.

Need two volunteers for cooking and cleanup. Two members of our camp are not able to make it this year!!!!

If weather is bad, we will be pushing it out to Sunday, Feb 19.

Services for Phil Laing

I am the son of Philip Laing. My mom, Barabra Laing, said you were one of his Saline Valley friends. We are trying to spread the word about his passing to the Saline Valley Community. He passed away this past Saturday, Dec 3rd. He had struggled with Dimentia for the past 6 or 7 years.

His services are next Monday, December 12th at Forest Lawn in Glendale California at 2:00 pm. Please let me know if you would like any more information. Saline Valley was a passion for our father and a big part of his life. We know he would love to have anyone who can make it come to his memorial service. There will be a reception following the service.

4 reliable eyewitness accounts confirmed that a large portion of the fence around the natural springs is gone. Does anybody have any ideas what has happened and who done it?

Lost Dog

Great weekend at Palm Spring but marred by dog that ran off Friday evening. She has been to the springs many times but combination of low flyover by jets late Friday afternoon and fireworks from neighboring camp caused her to bolt. Medium sized shepherd mix, black and tan coloring, blue collar with rhinestones. Her name is Luna. If found or any info, please reply here or call 775 316-1948. Reward!!

Advice for North/South Pass travelers

Hi all, a group of us was planning on coming down for Veteran's Day weekend from Mammoth Lakes. There's a chance of rain/snow all weekend, so we're a little nervous about making our way through the North Pass. I see that the North Pass conditions forum has veered slightly off topic, so I thought I'd ask here again. We don't mind taking the South Pass if need be, but there's still an issue of getting stuck. Any advice on current road conditions, especially after this most recent storm?

Nearest cellphone service?

Sorry - such a mundane topic. But does a body have to drive all the way out to Big Pine to get a signal on a cellphone? I heard someone say that there was a small 'hotspot' nearer to the Springs, but I didn't pay attention.

I appreciate any suggestions. My going out there may depend on being able to keep in touch with an elderly parent back home.

Just Want To Say Thanks...

On the way in last Friday, Audrey and I started having problems with the truck. We nursed it to within 'bout a mile of the lower Springs when it would go no more. Thank you to David in the Suzuki Samari for pulling us the last little bit, and also for rescuing our jerry cans.

A big thank you to John and his fellow campers for your compassion and for the ride to Big Pine. Here's hoping y'all got that tire changed without too much trouble. Note to self, always keep that special lug nut adapter in a safe place! And to John in the Samari going over Steele, here's hoping it was a trouble free and enjoyable journey.

Thanks to Lizard Lee for letting me leave the truck there till we can return and retrieve it.

And finally, thank you to all the fellow Springers who helped pass the word that we needed a ride to pavement and for your concern. It meant a lot to us and restored our faith in human nature.

Heavy duty tire inflator - any recommendations?

Hi! I know I should have asked in offroaders forums and believe me I had. However, I did not receive a decent response since all offroaders use off-road tires and always carry enough spares.

Can anybody recommend a decent heavy duty 12 V compressor that draws from a cigarette lighter, please?

Long Term Management Plan

I have heard that the Park Service will start a process to develop a Long Term Management Plan for Saline Valley. I have heard that they will start in November with an inventory. Has anyone seen anything official from the Park Service? How do I find out more info?
